| U.S. condemns Kabul attack and criticism fear of insurgent free vote |
"We offer our deepest condolences to the families of those killed and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded ," said State Department spokesman , Jen Psaki , in a press conference .
Thirteen people, including two children, were killed Thursday in an attack on the Serena Hotel in Kabul , one of the best protected in the capital frequented by Afghan and foreign nationals .
Psaki denounced the perpetrators of this attack " needlessly shed the blood of both Afghans and their international partners when citizens are celebrating Nowruz and preparing to vote in a historic election ."
" The barbaric nature of these events reminds us all that the insurgents have disregard for human life and the fear of a free vote for the future of Afghanistan," the spokesman added .
Psaki also confirmed that the victims of the attack is a U.S. citizen, but gave no further details.
Also be known after another of the deceased was a journalist , the State Department spokesman praised the " incredible service " of reporters who " put their lives at risk in many countries around the world" and said his work " commendable " .
