Secretary-General Ban Ki -moon has called for calm and dialogue with the " deteriorating situation in the east of Ukraine ," according to a statement from his spokesman released today by the United Nations.
"The secretary general stressed that the riots will not serve the interests of either party. Therefore calls on all sides to work to calm the situation , comply with the rule of law and to exercise maximum restraint ," says the note.
Also, ask for " an urgent and constructive dialogue" to reduce tension and "treat all differences " , while recalling that the UN is ready to support the " peaceful resolution of the crisis facing Ukraine ."

The letter stresses that Ban is "deeply concerned about the deteriorating situation in the east of Ukraine and the growing possibility of violent clashes ."
