The State Department of the United States has accused pro-Russian militia to storm government buildings in six cities of eastern Ukraine " in a coordinated and professional operation very similar to those carried out in Crimea ."
"Many of the militiamen wore bulletproof vests and camouflage uniforms with logos removed and weapons of Russian origin . These armed units , some of whom wore black and orange trim San Jorge , associated with the celebrations of Victory Day in Russia, have raised Russian and separatist flags captured , calling for a referendum and buildings annexation to Russia , "he detailed.
"These operations have many similarities to those carried out in Crimea in late February , culminating in the alleged illegal annexation and military intervention in the region ," he added in a statement.
"In the case of Crimea, highly organized and well equipped professional forces , wearing Russian military uniforms, took control of the government headquarters Crimea and security installations before being replaced by regular military forces ," he said .
The State Department said that the operations were " planned " and says that this is evidenced by the fact that they " took place simultaneously in several places in eastern Ukraine."
"The Ukrainian government has reported that officials of the Russian Intelligence are directly involved in the preparations for the activities of groups of pro-Russian resistance in the east of Ukraine," he noted , before saying that authorities have detained a person who " he has said to have been recruited by the Russian security services to carry out subversive activities ."
